Lineup Notes | Chicago Fire FC at New York Red Bulls

Starting XI List 1920x1080

Chicago Fire kick off a three-match road trip on Wednesday with a trip to New Jersey to take on the New York Red Bulls.

These two teams met just 19 days ago at Soldier Field, where the Red Bulls came away with a 2-1 win following a 90-minute rain delay and a pair of red cards shown to Fire forward Jhon Durán and defender Rafael Czichos. Head Coach Ezra Hendrickson's side will be looking to return the favor at Red Bull Arena this evening and come away with three points away from home.

Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. CT, with local coverage available on WGN, CF97 Live, and Univision Radio or find additional coverage available on MLS LIVE's out-of-market package on ESPN+. Details on how the Fire will line up at the opening whistle are below:

  • Six changes have been made to the starting XI that took on FC Cincinnati four days ago.
  • Forward Jhon Durán, who scored his first career MLS goal against Cincinnati over the weekend, gets his second start of the season up top tonight.
  • New signing Chris Mueller makes his second straight start and third appearance overall since joining the Club from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian F.C. two weeks ago.
  • Alongside Mueller and tonight's captain Xherdan Shaqiri, Brian Gutiérrez is back in the starting XI tonight for the fifth time this season.
  • Also returning to the opening lineup is Mauricio Pineda, who will partner with Federico Navarro in deep-lying midfield tonight.
  • In defense, Miguel Navarro returns to the back line after missing Saturday's match while serving a one-game suspension due to yellow card accumulation. He'll line up opposite Jhon Espinoza at fullback, who makes his second start of the season.
  • Centrally, Wyatt Omsberg makes his 12th start of the season tonight - the most among all Fire field players - alongside Carlos Terán, who makes his second.
  • Homegrown goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina slots into his usual spot between the posts tonight, also making his 12th start of the season.
  • Available to Hendrickson as substitutions tonight are goalkeeper Chris Brady, defender Boris Sekulić, defender Jonathan Bornstein, midfielder Gastón Giménez, midfielder Jairo Torres, forward Fabian Herbers, forward Stanislav Ivanov, forward Chinonso Offor, and forward Kacper Przybyłko.
  • Midfielder Javier Casas (pelvis), Defender Rafael Czichos (right lower leg), and goalkeeper Spencer Richey (head) are unavailable for selection tonight due to injury.
