CHICAGO (Sept. 21, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC II and the Ukrainian Association of Football announced that midfielder Vitaliy Hlyut was named to the Ukraine Under-19 Men’s National Team roster for an international training camp held in Albir, Spain.
Newly appointed head coach Oleh Luzhniyi will lead the Ukraine U-19s for the first time in this camp, which will also serve as preparation for 2027 UEFA European Under-19 Championship qualifying in November. Hlyut and 22 other players will report to camp before facing Sweden on Thursday, Sept. 24. Ukraine will play Germany on Sunday, Sept. 7, before wrapping up against Scotland on Wednesdsay, Sept. 30.
Hlyut, 18, has been a fixture on Chicago Fire II since 2024, recording more than 3,200 minutes across 56 appearances. The midfielder made his debut on March 17 that year, coming in as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against FC Cincinnati 2. Three days later, he scored in the opening round of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, making him the second-youngest player at the time to score in the prestigious competition at just 15 years of age. His standout season earned him an MLS NEXT Pro contract in 2025, making him the first Chicago Fire Academy player to sign with the second team.
The Ukrainian-American player has represented youth sides for both his country of birth and the United States in international duty. After last playing for former Fire defender Gonzalo Segares and the U.S. U-17 Men’s Youth National Team in the Ježek Cup in September 2024, he joined Ukraine U-18s in February 2026 before going up an age category ahead of qualifying for 2026 UEFA U19 EURO in Wales. Hlyut was a revelation in his last call-up this July, scoring three goals in Ukraine’s run to the semifinals of the tournament.
