Home Match Information

Policies referenced here are for MLS Regular Season matches. Policies for any other competitions, including Leagues Cup, U.S. Open Cup, or MLS Cup Playoffs may differ.

Exempted Items

Per MLS policy, Exempted Items are a privilege extended to Supporters and Supporters Groups who are in good standing and the exemptions granted are based on an agreement that the use of the items will comply with League, Club and/or venue policies.

Approvals

All Exempt Items must be approved in advance by the Supporter Liaison and inspected upon entry by stadium security.

Items requiring approval need only be approved once per season and once approved are considered approved for the rest of the season. For areas that are limited in size or scope, items may be approved on a match by match basis.

Approvals are based on guidelines provided in the MLS Fan Code of Conduct, which requires that all Exempt Items:

  • Cannot use language or display symbols or images that are threatening, abusive, or discriminatory, including on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, ability, and/or sexual orientation
  • Cannot display symbols or images for commercial purposes or for electioneering, campaigning or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action
  • Cannot depict acts of violence
  • Cannot unreasonably obstruct the view of the spectators outside of the supporter section
  • Cannot present a public hazard by blocking aisles, walkways, or stairs
  • Cannot be secured using any material likely to cause damage to the venue;
  • Cannot be used as a projectile
  • Cannot be constructed of wood, metal, or other materials that may cause harm to others

The Fire do not make judgements on content outside of the categories specified in the MLS Fan Code of Conduct

Entry

An early entry period for Exempt Items will take place 2 hours and 30 minutes before kickoff at Gate 1 at Soldier Field.

Drums, Horns, and Musical Instruments

All Instruments must be submitted for approval in advance to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

“Noisemakers,” such as whistles, vuvuzelas, and air horns are not permitted.

Flags and ‘Two-Sticks’ on Poles

Flags or two-sticks have the following limitations:

  • Must be on hollow PVC pipe with no caps on either end
  • Must stay in the Supporters Section at all times
  • Cannot present a public hazard by blocking aisles, walkways, or stairs
  • Cannot be used as a projectile

All flags and two-sticks must be submitted for approval with image and dimensions to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

The Chicago city flag, flags featuring only the Fire crest, and flags featuring only Chicago Fire colors without any other text or imagery are pre-approved

Banners

Supporters are permitted to hang banners only on the south wall of Soldier Field. Banners can only be brought into the stadium during Early Entry.

All banners must be submitted for approval with image and dimensions to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

Smoke & Flares

Smoke is permitted with specific conditions required for safe operation of smoke devices. Per league policy, all smoke devices must be provided by the Club. No smoke devices can be brought into the stadium.

All individuals participating in the deployment of safe smoke devices must receive annual training on the safe use, appropriate timing, and other policies and procedures related to smoke deployment.

Flares are never permitted.

Tailgates

Please remember, maintaining an aisle that is clear of tailgate equipment to accommodate emergency vehicles is imperative for maintaining a safe environment.

Parking Requirements:

  • Must have tickets to the match
  • Cannot park overnight
  • Cannot use parking spaces for tailgate equipment alone
  • Cannot save parking spaces

General Requirements:

  • Must stay within eight (8) feet immediately behind vehicle in each parking space
  • Cannot tailgate during and/or after the match
  • Cannot have any weapons or fireworks
  • Cannot solicit or distribute any unauthorized item
  • Cannot erect tents of any kind
  • Cannot engage in any disorderly conduct, including drinking games
  • Cannot picket or conduct any electioneering, campaigning or advocating for or against any candidate, political party, legislative issue, or government action
  • Cannot have any aerial items; including unmanned Aircraft Systems (“Drones”), tethered blimps, balloons, and other oversized inflatables

Flags and Banner Requirements:

Cooking/Flame Regulations:

  • Cannot have firepits, open fires, or open flame heaters in any lot
  • Cannot have open flame (grilling or otherwise) in North Garage & lower Waldron Garage
  • Cannot have deep fryers or any oil-based cooking or frying
  • Cannot have propane tanks larger than 19 pounds
