Approvals

Advance approvals are required for supporters to use certain Exempt Items, including tifo, drums, horns, musical instruments, flags, banners, and other displays of support.

All Exempt Items must be approved in advance by the Supporter Liaison and inspected upon entry by stadium security.

Approvals are based on guidelines provided in the MLS Fan Code of Conduct and the Fire do not make judgements on content outside of the categories specified in the MLS Fan Code of Conduct.

Approvals referenced on this page are for MLS Regular Season matches. Approvals for any other competitions, including Leagues Cup, U.S. Open Cup, and CONCACAF Champions League may differ.

All approvals have deadlines, which vary based on the item and time needed for review.

To have items approved, please contact Paul Cadwell at pcadwell@chicagofirefc.com and Roberto Diaz at rdiaz@chicagofirefc.com.

Deadlines and Requirements

Home Matches

Most items requiring approval need only be approved once per season and once approved are considered approved for the rest of the season. For areas that are limited in size or scope, items may be approved on a match by match basis.

Tifo

Please contact Paul Cadwell at pcadwell@chicagofirefc.com and Roberto Diaz at rdiaz@chicagofirefc.com in advance of any tifo design or construction to receive detailed requirements for tifo to be approved at Soldier Field.

Banners

Supporters are permitted to hang banners only on the south wall of Soldier Field. Banners can only be brought into the stadium during Early Entry.

All banners must be submitted for approval with image and dimensions to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

Flags and ‘Two-Sticks’ on Poles

Flags or two-sticks have the following limitations:

  • Must be on hollow PVC pipe with no caps on either end
  • Must stay in the Supporters Section at all times
  • Cannot present a public hazard by blocking aisles, walkways, or stairs
  • Cannot be used as a projectile

All flags and two-sticks must be submitted for approval with image and dimensions to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

The Chicago city flag, flags featuring only the Fire crest, and flags featuring only Chicago Fire colors without any other text or imagery are pre-approved

Drums, Horns, and Musical Instruments

All Instruments must be submitted for approval in advance to the Supporter Liaison Officer by Thursdays prior to Saturday matches and Mondays prior to Wednesday matches.

“Noisemakers,” such as whistles, vuvuzelas, and air horns will not be approved or permitted.
