Mihailović, USMNT close camp with friendly vs. Costa Rica Saturday

Less than a week after a day full of firsts, the U.S. Men's National Team returns to match action and closes its annual January camp with a friendly against Concacaf foe Costa Rica Saturday (Feb. 2) in San Jose, Calif. The game kicks off at 2:30 PM CT with national TV coverage available on FOX, UniMás and UDN. 

After picking up a 3-0 win over Panama in his debut as USMNT head coach, Gregg Berhalter now has another chance to evaluate his MLS-based camp roster as players make their case for a spot in future U.S. training camp setups. Among those to make their mark in last Sunday's debut match under Berhalter was Chicago Fire Homegrown midfielder Djordje Mihailovic, who impressed in his first career cap and notched a 40th-minute goal in the win over Panama.

After the Lemont, Ill. native was one of seven players to make their senior USMNT debut vs. Panama -- and one of five to do so in the starting XI -- Berhalter has decisions to make about how much to rotate his squad in the second and final friendly, but told media members earlier this week that drastic changes to his side were no guarantee. Should Mihailovic be called upon against Costa Rica, it will come on the same pitch at Avaya Stadium where he scored his first professional goal for the Fire back on Sept. 27, 2017, a 4-1 win that clinched the club's spot in the 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs.  

Regardless of how much he features against the Ticos on Saturday, Mihailovic will be closing the book on an overwhelmingly positive first foray into senior U.S. Men's National Team setups. After a brief, well-earned respite, the 20-year-old will soon be able to rejoin his Fire teammates as they complete their training stint in Madrid and move on to leg 2 of preseason in Charleston, S.C.
