Fire to face Dwyer-less SKC side on Saturday night

Dom Dwyer

As it turns out, the league's latest summer blockbuster trade has a ripple effect on the Chicago Fire's weekend.

When they take the field on Saturday night (7 p.m. CT, CSN Chicago Plus), head coach Veljko Paunovic's men will lineup against a Sporting Kansas City side playing its first game since the departure of forward Dom Dwyer.

The 26-year-old English-born U.S. international was dealt to Orlando City SC on Tuesday afternoon in exchange for $400,000 in General Allocation Money, $500,000 in Targeted Allocation Money, and up to $700,000 in future Allocation Money based on Dwyer’s performance.

Dwyer had scored three times in seven appearances against the Fire since 2013, all of which came over three matches played during his club record-setting 22-goal campaign in 2014.

Dwyer's five goals for SKC in 2017 were one off of the team-leading pace of (now former) teammate Gerso Fernandes, whom the Fire defense will now look to key in on come Saturday night.
