Expansion Draft promo

The 2016 MLS Expansion Draft took place Tuesday afternoon, with incoming sides Minnesota United FC and Atlanta United FC each selecting five unprotected players from teams around Major League Soccer.

Atlanta began the selection process, and made defensive additions a theme throughout the process. They led off by choosing Donny Toia of the Montreal Impact, a 24-year-old defender and former Real Salt Lake homegrown. Minnesota followed with a defensive selection of their own, scooping up Chris Duvall, a 25-year-old fullback/centerback from the New York Red Bulls. None of the Fire's unprotected players were selected over the course of the five-round process.

The full selections from each team (in the order in which they were taken) are as follows:

Atlanta United FC: Donny Toia (Defender, Montreal Impact), Zach Loyd (Defender, FC Dallas), Clint Irwin (Goalkeeper, Toronto FC), Mikey Ambrose (Defender, Orlando City SC), Alec Kann (Goalkeeper, Sporting Kansas City)

Minnesota United FC: Chris Duvall (Defender, New York Red Bulls), Collen Warner (Midfielder, Houston Dynamo), Mohammed Saeid (Midfielder, Columbus Crew SC), Jeff Attinella (Goalkeeper, Real Salt Lake), Femi Hollinger-Janzen (Forward, New England Revolution)
