Chicago Fire Sign Goalkeeper Matt Lampson

CHICAGO(Feb. 26, 2016) – The Chicago Fire announced Friday that the club has signed goalkeeper Matt Lampson to a one-year deal with the club option through the second year.


"Matt has proven himself as a winning goalkeeper in MLS," said Fire general manager Nelson Rodríguez. "His character, work ethic and resiliency are all important additions to our team and reflective of what our club values."


Lampson signed his initial professional contract with Crew SC on Dec. 15, 2011 after a standout collegiate career at Ohio State University. He made his MLS debut on Aug. 25, 2012, when he entered in the second half of a 4-3 victory over the New England Revolution.


In 2013, Lampson started all 13 MLS matches in which he appeared, tallying 43 saves en route to a 1.38 GAA and five shutouts.


A native of Hilliard, Ohio, Lampson was loaned to USL sides Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Charlotte Independence in 2015, where he appeared in seven total matches.


Lampson and the Fire close out the Simple Invitational in Portland, Ore. against reigning MLS Cup champions Portland Timbers on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m. CT. The match will be available via live web stream at Chicago-Fire.com.
