CHICAGO (Sept. 18, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC and the Georgian Football Federation announced that midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili was named to the Georgia Men’s National Team for four upcoming UEFA Nations League matches.
Mekvabishvili and 26 other players will report to head coach Willy Sagnol on Sept. 21 ahead of the start of competition in UEFA Nations League B. They will kick off Group B2 play at the Boris Paitchadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi on Friday, Sept. 25 against Northern Ireland and on Monday, Sept. 28 against Ukraine. Georgia will then close out the window on the road, facing Hungary on Friday, Oct. 2 at the Puskás Arena in Budapest before a rematch with Northern Ireland on Monday, Oct. 5 at Windsor Park in Belfast.
The Georgian midfielder recently joined Chicago on Sept. 1 after more than 230 appearances across various competitions in Europe, winning three titles with Romanian club Universitatea Craiova and one with his hometown club, Dinamo Tbilisi. At the international level, Mekvabishvili has earned 33 caps for the senior national team in multiple competitions, including FIFA World Cup qualifiers, the UEFA European Championship and the Nations League.
Chicago embarks on a two-game road stretch in the South, first traveling to face Nashville SC on Saturday, Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT at GEODIS Park. The match will be broadcast globally on Apple TV, and transmitted locally on wlsam.com in English and TUDN Chicago 106.7-HD2 and Uforia by TREBEL app in Spanish. The Fire will then head to North Carolina to face Charlotte FC at 6:30 p.m. CT on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Bank of America Stadium.
