Match Preview
Chicago Fire FC returns to Soldier Field from the international break for a make-up match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Tuesday, Oct. 6.
Before the league paused for the first international window since FIFA World Cup 2026, the Men in Red faced Charlotte FC on Sept. 26 in North Carolina. The Fire broke through in the 58th minute, when Philip Zinckernagel's corner kick found Jack Elliott after an attempted clearance. The ball then fell to Johan Gómez, who didn’t hesitate to strike through traffic for his first goal in MLS. In his first start with Chicago, goalkeeper Josh Cohen posted a clean sheet in a 1-0 win that helped the Fire remain in fifth place in the East with a game in hand.
That game in hand is due to the postponement of a match originally scheduled for July 16 against Vancouver. Like the Fire, the 'Caps had to delay the restart of their season but bounced back to the top of the Western Conference. They arrive in Chicago following a 3-0 road victory against Real Salt Lake on Sept. 19 before an exhilarating 3-3 home draw against D.C. United on Sept. 26. Points on the lakefront could get the MLS Cup finalists closer to their fourth postseason appearance in a row.

Hyundai Keys to the Match:
- Juuust a Bit Outside: The Chicago defense made Charlotte miss plenty, allowing only two shots on target in the 1-0 win against the Crown. Can they frustrate the Vancouver attack just as much on Tuesday?
- Two in a Row: The Men in Red won their last match against Charlotte. If they win against Vancouver, that's two in a row. If they win on Saturday, that's called a winning streak. In the words of Lou Brown, it has happened before!
- Give 'em the Heater: The Fire will finally have some big names in hot form back on the lakefront, including Robert Lewandowski – who is fresh off a hat trick with Poland – and Mbekezeli Mbokazi, who invigorated the defense in his return from the Injured List against Charlotte.

Match Notes
- Tuesday's make-up match will be the first between Chicago and Vancouver since a 3-1 Fire victory in Canada in March 2025. The match was marked by a Man of the Match performance from Philip Zinckernagel, who scored the game-winner for his first goal with Chicago while adding an assist. It also marked the first time the Fire had won three road matches in a row since 2009.
- Zinckernagel and Robin Lod are the only two current Fire players who have scored a goal against Vancouver. Formerly with Western Conference rivals Minnesota United FC, Lod leads all players in minutes, games played and starts, adding three assists against Vancouver.
- Goalkeeper Chris Brady (United States); defender Noah Allen (Greece U-21); midfielders Robin Lod (Finland), Anzor Mekvabishvili (Georgia) and Robert Turdean (U-17 USMNT) remain unavailable for selection due to international duty this week.

Starting XI
Chicago Fire FC Director of Football and Head Coach Gregg Berhalter will name a Starting XI approximately one hour prior to the start of the match on the lakefront.
