CHICAGO (Oct. 12, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC winger Maren Haile-Selassie was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 29 following his performance in the two victories against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and New York City FC last week at Soldier Field.

Haile-Selassie was named to his second Team of the Matchday of the season after registering a goal and an assist in each of the two matches on the lakefront last week. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, the winger recorded a game-winning assist on Philip Zinckernagel’s 50th minute strike before tallying a wide-open goal to seal a 3-1 victory against Vancouver. Four days later, he kickstarted a shorthanded comeback with an assist on midfielder Anton Salétros’ equalizing goal in the second half of the match against New York City. Haile-Selassie then pounced on a loose pass in the box in the 87th minute to score a game-winner for the second time this year, giving the Fire their third in a row.

The Swiss winger’s sixth mention on the MLS Team of the Matchday coincides with a recent run of form that has seen him climb up to sixth all-time in goal contributions in Club history. His last mention on Matchday 24 came under similar circumstances, contributing to two goals in two straight road matches against Seattle and Toronto. His performances in 2026 resulted in a recently announced new contract that will see Haile-Selassie remain with the Fire through the 2028-29 season.
