The versatile Swiss player scored twice in the Fire’s 4-4 draw against Toronto FC, their sixth-straight MLS match without a loss
CHICAGO (Sept. 7, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC winger Maren Haile-Selassie was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday for Matchday 24 following his performance in Saturday’s 4-4 draw against Toronto FC at BMO Field.
Haile-Selassie was named to his first Team of the Matchday of the season after scoring two goals in Toronto. Starting in the midfield on Saturday, the versatile Swiss player opened the scoring in the following a corner kick clearance in the 13th minute. The winger reeled in the ball, took a touch and rifled a shot that deflected into an open goal for the early lead. Down by one goal in the second half, Haile-Selassie leveled the score for a final time when he pounced on a rebound left by forward Robert Lewandowski at the top of the box, finishing cleanly for his second time in the night.
The brace gave Haile-Selassie four goals in his last three matches, all of them on the road. His recent run of form was rewarded with his fifth mention on the MLS Team of the Matchday since joining the Fire in 2023 and his first on the list’s Starting XI. He was named to the bench of the Team of the Matchday three times in 2023, in addition to his last honor coming on the heels of a one-goal, one-assist performance in the Matchday 24 victory against the Philadelphia Union on July 3, 2024.
