Chicago Fire midfielder Djordje Mihailović captained the U.S. Under-23 Men's National Team to a 6-1 victory over El Salvador on Tuesday evening as part of the team’s training camp at Florida International University.

Mihailović got his first assist of the night in the 30th minute, setting up Colorado Rapids forward Jonathan Lewis for a finish from a tough angle on the second U.S. goal. Then, three minutes after halftime, Mihailović played to New York Red Bulls midfielder Omir Fernandez, who then teed up PSV Eindhoven's Richy Ledezma for the U.S.' third goal from close range. Hobro IK's Christian Cappo replaced Mihailović in the 67th minute with the U.S. comfortably up 5-1. He'll next return to Chicago for postseason training with the Fire.

Leading up to Tuesday's match, the 20-year-old previously appeared in all three of the U-23s' games in 2019 as they prepare for 2020 Concacaf Olympic Qualifying. After notching starts for the U-23s against Egypt (March 22) and the Netherlands (March 24), Mihailović recently started and captained the U-23s in a 2-0 friendly win over Japan on Sept. 9 at the Chula Vista Elite Athletic Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.

At the senior team level, the midfielder has also earned five caps under Head Coach Gregg Berhalter in 2019, including two appearances in the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup.
