Chicago Fire Academy Goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina Called Up to U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team

CHICAGO(Feb. 13, 2020) – Chicago Fire FC announced today that goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina has been selected to play for the U.S. U-17 Men’s National Team at the UEFA Development Tournament in England. The U-17 MNT will hold its first training camp of 2020 at St. Georges Park in Burton upon Trent, England.


The U-17 National Team will be coached by Director of Player Development at Cincinnati, Larry Sunderland, as the team begins play on Feb. 19 facing Spain. The U-17’s will also play England on Feb. 21, and Denmark on Feb. 24.


Slonina, a Chicago Fire Homegrown player, has spent the past three seasons with the Chicago Fire Academy. During his time, he’s made appearances in 54 fixtures, and has started in 52 of them in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play. Most recently, Slonina helped lead the U.S. U-16 Boys’ National Team to the 2019 Nike International Friendlies title. Slonina is signed through 2022 with the Fire, with a club option in 2023.
