NEWS: Forward Mike Magee Undergoes Season-Ending Hip Surgery

Mike Magee DL

CHICAGO (Sept. 9, 2014) – The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced that forward Mike Magee underwent a right hip procedure to address an injury of the labrum and to repair articular surface damage. The surgery was performed yesterday at Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. by Dr. Marc Philippon. Magee is expected to miss six to eight months while recovering from the procedure.

“It’s unfortunate that Mike will be out for an extended period, but he’s been struggling this season with the injuries,” said Fire head coach and Director of Soccer Frank Yallop. “After consulting with our medical staff, we decided that this was the best time for Mike to have the procedure.”

A Chicago native, Magee joined the Fire in a trade with the LA Galaxy on May 25, 2013. In 22 games with the Men in Red, Magee scored 15 goals and tallied four assists. Prior to joining the Fire, Magee scored six goals with the LA Galaxy, bringing his season total to 21 goals. For his year-long performance, he was named the 2013 Volkswagen MLS Most Valuable Player.

This season, Magee scored seven goals and added four assists in 17 regular season matches.
