Josip Mikulic

A young professional with a wealth of experience in his home of Croatia, Josip Mikulic joined Cory Gibbs, Jalil Anibaba and Yamith Cuesta in providing stability and depth at the center back position during 2011. Mikulic will continue to push for a consistent place in the starting XI heading into his second Fire campain in 2012.

2011: Appeared in 14 matches, starting 12 while logging1038 minutes in his debut MLS campaign…Began the season pairing with Cory Gibbs in the center of the backline before a series of injuries kept him out of the lineup…Received a red card from the bench in stoppage time of the 2-1 loss 7/9 at LA after he argued Chris Birchall’s reckless tackle on Patrick Nyarko…LAMAR HUNT U.S. OPEN CUP: Started three matches, including the 2-0 final loss 10/4 at SEA, logging 266 minutes…INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLIES: Appeared in both matches, logging 135 minutes in a 3-1 loss 7/23 vs. Manchester United and a 1-0 loss 9/14 vs. Chivas de Guadalajara.

2005-2010: Accumulated 3,348 minutes over 48 matches in defense for Croatian First Division side NK Zagreb.

2004-05: Went on loan to Croatian side NK Sesvete from Dinamo Zagreb, making one appearance.

Youth Career: Came up in Croatian giants Dinamo Zagreb’s youth system where he played with current Fire teammate Marko Maric.

International: Made six appearances for the Croatian U19 Men’s National Team.
