Chicago Fire FC got goals from Robert Berić and Francisco Calvo in a narrow 3-2 defeat to Vancouver Whitecaps FC at SeatGeek Stadium on Saturday in the Club's final preseason match of 2021.

The match marked the Fire's sixth friendly since preseason began in early March with the team coming away with three wins, two losses, and a draw.

After the Whitecaps opened the scoring in the fifth minute, the Fire answered back just four minutes later when Luka Stojanović took a foul in the box and Berić buried the ensuing penalty.

Vancouver went on to net the next two goals before Chicago pulled one back in the 79th minute. Mauricio Pineda, playing in his first preseason match of the year after spending a month with the U.S. U-23 national team, delivered a pin-point cross onto the waiting head of Calvo, who snapped home a thumping header.

The Fire threatened to equalize on multiple occasions in the waning moments but couldn't quite find the back of the net a third time.

Chicago next sets their sights at last on their 2021 regular season opener, a meeting with the New England Revolution at Soldier Field on Saturday, April 17 at 7:30 pm CT on WGN and CFFC Live.
