CHICAGO (Sept. 3, 2022) –  Chicago Fire FC II head coach Ludovic Taillandier and defender Charlie Ostrem discussed the team’s match against Columbus Crew 2.

Chicago Fire FC II Head Coach Ludovic Taillandier

On the match against Columbus Crew 2…

“We definitely didn’t look as sharp and as good as they are, first. Then, congrats to them. They are very physical players, in general, faster than us and they play, also, as a team, a very good brand of soccer. Congrats to them, that’s the first thing I want to say. Our players tried, they never gave up. We knew it would be hard. We told the players in the beginning, before the game: try to be yourself, try to get the ball, to have the possession, to press as usual, nothing different. But be also ready to suffer together because that’s definitely the best team in the league. And to compete, we need to give more effort than what we have done until now. We finished the game stronger than we began, I would say. Tactically, we made some adjustments halfway to try to resolve some tactical issues. They were breaking us down near the center of the field and we tried to bring more players to the center of the field with playing a 5-3-2 in the second half to try to help and to bring the to the sides, to press them a little better. In general I would say it was a little better in the last 15 minutes. We could have scored another one, maybe. We didn’t give up. That’s the good part.

On Omari Glasgow breaking his scoreless drought…

“Always very happy for Omari because he’s a very hardworking player. Very happy when he can get to the goal because that’s also a part of his game that we need. In those kinds of games, he’s a difference maker. He’s able, like he did, to take on some opponents one-on-one, to do very quick one-twos like he did today. That’s good. Always very happy for the kid, he’s a very good person, giving it all on the field. I’m very happy for him.”

On how the team will respond next weekend against FC Cincinnati…

“We saw Cincinnati earlier this year but it looks like they changed, they are a little different. They are able to compete way better than they did a few months ago. Now they are a very difficult team to beat. I expect a Cincinnati side that is definitely better than the last time we met them. We’ll have to be at our best to get a result against Cincy.”

Chicago Fire FC II Defender Charlie Ostrem

On the match against Columbus Crew 2…

“I mean, Columbus Crew is a really good team. They’re the top team in the league and although we're a younger team, older guys, like myself, have to step up and be leaders and, and dominate the communication and, you know, be the guys on the field and tonight we couldn't do that but we'll get on to the next one.”

On what the team has to do next weekend against FC Cincinnati 2…

“I think we just need to learn from our mistakes and just get another win in Cincinnati and regardless of the playoffs, it's just, it's about pride at this point, and we want to win with some pride, so on to the next one.”
