Chicago Fire FC secured it's second-straight road win on Saturday night in a 3-2 victory at Charlotte FC that pushed the Club's unbeaten run to five matches.
Following the victory, two of the night's stars - forward Kacper Przybyłko and midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri - have been included in the MLS Team of the Week!
Pzybyłko was named to the TOTW's first XI for bagging a brace against the 2022 expansion side - his fourth and fifth goals of the season. First, in the 21st minute, the Polish forward jumped on a rebounded Gastón Giménez attempt from distance and crushed a follow-up into the top corner of the net that pulled the Fire level at one apiece.
He then gave the Fire a lead they would not relinquish when he bagged his second of the night in the 52nd minute. Przybyłko took a dribble toward the top of the Charlotte 18-yard box, beat defender Christian Fuchs, and expertly placed a low shot past goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina to make the score 3-2. Przybyłko'a five goals scored this season currently lead the team in the category.
Shaqiri picked up his team-leading ninth and tenth assists of the season on the night, and was named to the TOTW bench for his efforts. Prior to his brilliant cross-field switch to Przybyłko that set up the Fire's third goal shown above, Shaqiri also teed up Federico Navarro's volleyed goal from outside the box in the 24th minute with a cleverly-nodded pass into the Argentine's stride.
With the win, the Fire moved above the MLS postseason line into seventh place in the Eastern Conference, with 30 points through 24 matches played.
Przybyłko, Shaqiri and the Fire will next look to make it three road wins in a row and six-straight games unbeaten when the Club travels to Philadelphia to take on the first place Union on Saturday, Aug. 13, at 6:30 p.m. CT. Coverage for that match can be found on WGN, CF97 Live, Univision Radio, and MLS Live's out-of-market package on ESPN+.
