A brief, two-game homestand comes to an end on Sunday afternoon when Chicago Fire FC hosts New England Revolution at Soldier Field.
The Men in Red return to the lakefront days after a 1-1 draw against Inter Miami CF in front of a Club-record 63,094 in the iconic venue. The crowd helped the Fire find an opening goal just 10 minutes in, when Andrew Gutman peeled away from a defender before whipping in a pinpoint cross for Robert Lewandowski to volley home. His sixth goal in seven MLS starts put Chicago up 1-0 at the end of the first half, but Casemiro's header off a Lionel Messi corner kick leveled it early in the second. Chris Brady took over the rest of the way, making six stunning saves to hear his name chanted multiple times throughout the night.
New England will conclude a four-game road trip in Chicago, splitting the first two matches before a midweek stop in Queens to face New York City FC. Midfielder Carles Gil scored for a third-straight match to put the visitors in the lead. Although newcomer Luighi equalized for New York City, the Revolution stunned the home crowd in stoppage time as Daniel Gazdag chested down a cross in the box and hit a half-volley that sent his side into third place of the Eastern Conference standings with the win.
