HARRISON, N.J. (Aug. 22, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC (11-6-3, 36 points) earned a 1-1 draw on the road against Red Bull New York (7-9-5, 26 points) on Saturday night at Sports Illustrated Stadium.

The match was Chicago’s seventh in a row without a loss in all competitions, the longest such streak since 2017. Midfielder Maren Haile-Selassie scored the lone goal of the night for the Fire.

After several long spells of possession to open the match, Philip Zinckernagel released the ball to Jonathan Bamba in his own half. The winger took off before sending the ball forward to Viktor Radojević on the left. The left back passed to Haile-Selassie at the corner of the box, where he struck a marvelous bender that found the upper corner of the goal to put Chicago ahead in the 38th minute.

Chicago remained in front through much of the second half, but the home side gradually regained some momentum as the match wore on. With fresh legs on the field, New York finally equalized in the 86th minute. Two substitutions – defender Omar Valencia and forward Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting – combined to send a cross into the box for a third, Cameron Harper, who headed in a goal that split the points between the sides in New Jersey.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago Fire FC returns to Leagues Cup play during the week, taking on CF Monterrey in the tournament quarterfinals. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, Aug. 25, and the match will be broadcast globally on Apple TV.

Match Notes:

  • Saturday night’s result was Chicago’s seventh straight without a loss, the longest such streak across all competitions since 2017. The Fire kicked off a stretch of 13 games without a loss starting with a road draw against the LA Galaxy on May 6, 2017 that ended in New York City on July 22. The streak included 11 regular season matches and two in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, including a 0-0 draw against FC Cincinnati that was decided in a penalty shootout.
  • Maren Haile-Selassie tallied his fourth goal of the season to put the Fire ahead in the first half. The goal was his 17th in four seasons with Chicago and 44th goal contribution all-time, just behind 12th-place Brian Gutiérrez with 45 combined goals and assists.
  • In his 10th appearance and third start of the regular season, left back Viktor Radojević also registered his first goal contribution with the Fire on his assist of Haile-Selassie’s goal.
  • New Jersey native Sam Williams made first appearance of the season for Chicago. The midfielder played 65 minutes from the start after being recalled from a season-long loan to Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC earlier this week.
  • Midfielder Sergio Oregel Jr. (Lower Body) and winger Chris Mueller (Not Due to Injury) were unavailable for selection. Midfielder André Franco (Lower Body) and defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Lower Body) remain on the league Injured List and will be out for the foreseeable future.
