Match Recap | Chicago Fire FC Extends MLS Unbeaten Streak to Five with 2-2 Draw against Seattle Sounders FC

SEATTLE (Aug. 29, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC (11-6-4, 37 points) drew 2-2 with Seattle Sounders FC (7-9-5, 26 points) on Saturday afternoon at Lumen Field.

Chicago remains in third place in the Eastern Conference. With the draw, Chicago remained undefeated in five MLS regular season matches and registered a 6-1-2 record across all competitions in the month of August.

Against Seattle, the two teams entered the locker rooms tied at halftime after the hosts opened the scoring by way of Dejan Joveljić in the 12th minute. Chicago responded with a goal in the 39th minute from Maren Haile-Selassie. The winger tallied his fifth goal of the season when Andrew Gutman received a ball on the left side of the field and sent it up for Robert Lewandowski, who touched it across the top of the box. Haile-Selassie came through, bringing it down with his thigh and letting it settle before rifling a shot into the lower right corner.

Seattle pulled ahead just after halftime with another goal from Joveljic, who scored again in the 48th minute. Chicago continued to push forward, breaking even in the 82nd minute as Lewandowski tallied his fourth goal of the MLS regular season. Haile-Selassie played a ball up the right side for Puso Dithejane, who looked up and sent the ball to the near post where Lewandowski timed his run perfectly to power the ball into the net with his head.

• In the 34th minute of his 113th appearance for Chicago Fire FC, goalkeeper Chris Brady reached 10,000 minutes played, becoming the second Homegrown player and first Homegrown goalkeeper in Club history to reach the milestone.

• Maren Haile-Selassie tallied his fifth goal of the season and recorded his eighth assist. His 46 all-time goal contributions put him in 12th place all-time for the Fire, surpassing Brian Gutierrez’s 44 and one behind Josh Wolff and Hugo Cuypers, who both have 47.

• Chicago played nine matches in August across the MLS regular season and Leagues Cup 2026, registering six victories, two draws and only one defeat.

• Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Lower Body), midfielder André Franco (Lower Body) and winger Chris Mueller (Not Due to Injury) were unavailable for selection today.
