CHICAGO (Oct. 28, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC (15-10-7, 52 points) overcame a two-goal halftime deficit to earn a 2-2 draw against Orlando City SC (12-13-7, 43 points) on Wednesday night at Soldier Field. With the point, Chicago remains in fourth place of the Eastern Conference standings with two matches remaining.

Jonathan Bamba scored and assisted fellow winger Maren Haile-Selassie to mount a comeback that clinched the best record at Soldier Field in 25 years.

Orlando kicked off the scoring in the sixth minute, exploiting Chicago's push for an equalizer with a counterattack in the 35th minute. The Fire came out of the halftime break determined to cut into the deficit, sending Bamba into the match to kickstart a comeback.

After multiple forays into the Orlando box, Bamba halved the deficit in the 57th minute. Defender Andrew Gutman whipped a cross into the box that was cleared into the path of Leonardo Barroso. The right back swung a ball to the far post that Bamba headed home to bring the crowd to its feet.

Just over 10 minutes later, Chicago's pressure resulted in a recovery from captain Jack Elliott deep into the Orlando half. Winger Philip Zinckernagel came away with the ball in the process, forcing a short clearance from the Lions' defense that fell to Bamba. The winger laid it off for Haile-Selassie, who did not hesitate to tie the match at a final score of 2-2.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago travels to Colorado for the final road game of the regular season against the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, Oct. 31. Kickoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast globally on Apple TV, and transmitted locally on wlsam.com in English and TUDN Chicago 106.7-HD2 and Uforia by TREBEL app in Spanish.

Match Notes:

  • Jonathan Bamba scored and assisted in the same match for the first time since the Fire's 7-1 win at D.C. United on June 7, 2025. Similarly, his two goal contributions in that match came in one half of play, albeit in the first half.
  • Maren Haile-Selassie added to his team lead in goal contributions with his 12th goal of the season. The total is double his previous career-high of six goals scored in 2023, when he won the Club's Golden Boot award.
  • Chicago finished the season with a 9-5-2 record at Soldier Field, the best record at the iconic venue since 2001, when the Fire went 9-2-3. They also finished with 30 goals scored on the lakefront, equalling the total from the 2005 season, the third most in Club history.
  • Defenders Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Suspended) and Sam Rogers (Lower Body), and midfielders Robin Lod (Lower Body) and André Franco (Lower Body) were not available for selection.
