The playoff-bound Chicago Fire FC will close out the home portion of the 2025 regular season with an Eastern Conference match against Toronto FC on Saturday, Oct. 4 at Soldier Field.
The Fire will return to the lakefront having clinched a berth in the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs with a 5-3 victory against Inter Miami CF Tuesday night in South Florida. Five different scorers tallied in Chicago’s Club-record ninth road victory of the season, including Homegrown defender Justin Reynolds’ game-winning goal. The Men in Red will make their 14th appearance in the postseason since their inaugural 1998 season and first since 2017.
Toronto will face Chicago for the second time this season, dropping a 2-1 home match to the Fire back on March 15. In their last match on Sept. 27, the Reds welcomed Miami to BMO Field, where the visitors took a 1-0 lead one minute into first-half stoppage time courtesy of midfielder Tadeo Allende. But midfielder Djordje Mihailović got one back 15 minutes into the second half to even the score in Toronto’s seventh consecutive draw, six of them by the same score of 1-1.

Keys to the Match
- Full Speed Ahead: Coming off a playoff-clinching midweek trip to South Florida, it would be easy to think that the Fire will ease off the accelerator a little bit, especially against a team already eliminated from playoff contention like Toronto. But “easing off” is not in Chicago’s DNA. With playoff seeding at stake, the Fire will be operating on all cylinders to go into the postseason in hot form.
- Records Abound: After a five-goal outburst in Ft. Lauderdale, the 2025 Chicago Fire have now scored 64 goals in 32 games – only three fewer than the Club-record 67 scored by the 2000 squad. Over the next two matches, Chicago has an opportunity to break this and other records, including the league’s scoring record on the road. All the marks that could potentially be broken are a testament to the success that Chicago has seen this season.
- Have Fun! A regular season to remember comes to an end at home for the Fire and their fans on Fan Appreciation Night, presented by Zayed Law Offices. This time around, Fire fans don't have to wait for months to see their favorite team – they get to see them in the playoffs within a few weeks. So, let’s have some fun on Saturday, get a win and get ready for the postseason. Thank you, Fire fans!
By the Numbers
0 – Besides holding the Crew without a goal Saturday night for the first time since Sept. 3, 2022 – and for the second time in as many matches – Chicago also did not surrender a single shot in the first half. The last time the Fire held a team without a shot in one half was, coincidentally, one week prior to their last clean sheet against Columbus: in the second half of an Aug. 27, 2022 match against CF Montréal at Soldier Field.
4 – Tuesday's playoff-clinching victory in South Florida was the Fire's fourth in September, marking the fourth time Chicago has won as many matches in the penultimate month of the regular season. The 4-1-0 mark in September 2025 was the best since 2012, when the Men in Red had the same record on their way to the postseason. Before then, they went 4-2-0 in 2006 and 1998 – setting up the Fire's double MLS Cup and U.S. Open Cup victories in their inaugural season.
6 – With his 17th goal of the season and 27th all-time in regular season play for Chicago, forward Hugo Cuypers now stands alone in sixth place for most goals in Fire history. After completing the scoring in the 70th minute, Cuypers broke a three-way tie with Piotr Nowak and Marco Pappa for the sixth spot in the Fire’s all-time scorer list. If the Belgian striker gets hot to the tune of five goals in the next two matches, he will reach the mark set by Josh Wolff in fifth place by the end of the 2025 regular season.
