Lineup Notes | Chicago Fire FC vs. Charlotte FC

Chicago returns to the lakefront to host Charlotte FC at Soldier Field. Kickoff for the match is slated for 7:30 p.m. CT and the match will be broadcast globally on MLS Season Pass. It will also be transmitted locally in Chicago on wlsam.com in English and WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.

  • Head Coach Frank Klopas made three changes to the lineup that faced St. Louis CITY SC last Saturday at CITYPARK.
  • Midfielder Player Xherdan Shaqiri returns to the XI, wearing the captain’s armband against Charlotte.
  • Homegrown midfielder Brian Gutiérrez starts for the ninth time this season and will play in his 100th regular season match for the Fire, making him the second Homegrown Player to reach the centennial mark in appearances after Mauricio Pineda.
  • Goalkeeper Chris Brady makes his 12th start of the season in the net, having only missed one game due to international duty.
  • Forward Hugo Cuypers starts his 13th consecutive match for the Fire after notching his third goal for the Men in Red against St. Louis. Cuypers is tied with Gutiérrez for the team lead in goals scored this season.
  • Midfielder Kellyn Acosta starts his 12th straight match, pairing up with midfielder Federico Navarro returning to the starting lineup for the first time since April 20 against Real Salt Lake.
  • Winger Chris Mueller is playing in his 10th game of the regular season, starting for the seventh consecutive time.
  • Defender Andrew Gutman starts his fifth match of the season, having played the full 90 minutes in the two previous matches against St. Louis and New England, respectively.
  • Defender Carlos Terán returns to the XI for the second straight time, earning his fourth start of the regular season and his sixth appearance overall.
  • Defender Rafael Czichos returns to the starting lineup after leaving the match against New England due to injury. It’s the German’s 12th start of the season and 13th appearance overall.
  • Rounding out the defense is Arnaud Souquet, who is starting for the fourth time this season and for the first time since April 20 against Real Salt Lake.
  • Chase Gasper (upper leg), Maren Haile-Selassie (lower leg) and Tobias Salquist (upper leg) are unavailable for today’s match.
  • Available off the bench for Coach Klopas are goalkeeper Spencer Richey; defenders Jonathan Dean, Wyatt Omsberg; defender/midfielder Mauricio Pineda; midfielders Gastón Giménez, Omari Glasgow and Fabian Herbers; and forwards Tom Barlow and Georgios Koutsias.
