Lineup Notes | Chicago Fire FC at New England Revolution

Chicago returns to MLS regular season action after advancing to the quarterfinals of the 2023 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup with a 2-0 win on the road against Austin FC on Wednesday, May 24. Up next is an encounter against a New England Revolution side looking to snap a three-game losing streak across all competitions.

It is the second game of a four-game road stretch for the Fire, who look to extend their unbeaten run to three while at Gillette Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 6:30 p.m. CT on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, and the match will also be transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM and in English on wlsam.com.

  • Six changes were made to the lineup that faced Atlanta United in Matchday 14 on Saturday, May 20 at Soldier Field.
  • Forward Kacper PrzybyÅ‚ko starts for a third-consecutive time in league play and is second on the team with three goals in MLS and five across all competitions.
  • Greek forward Georgios Koutsas joins the Chicago Fire’s starting XI for the first time. Koutsias scored his first MLS and Chicago Fire goal in the 89th minute of the 3-3 tie with Atlanta United, keeping the team unbeaten at Soldier Field so far in 2023.
  • Swiss international midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is wearing the captain’s armband for the second time this season, and the third across all competitions. Shaqiri was instrumental in the first goal and set up the play that led to the second goal against Atlanta United.
  • Midfielder Jairo Torres returns to the starting XI for the first time since leaving the field with a first-half injury in the Fire’s first game of the season against NYCFC on March 4.
  • Torres is joined in the middle of the field by Argentine midfielder Gastón Giménez, who returns to the squad after serving a one-game suspension for yellow-card accumulation. 
  • The two center-mids are flanked by Miguel Navarro on the left and Maren Haile-Selassi on the right.
  • Behind the midfield is a three-person backline of Kendall Burks (right), Mauricio Pineda (center) and Wyatt Omsberg (left).
  • Goalkeeper Chris Brady once again backstops the group, manning the net in his 12th start of the season.
  • Available to Klopas as substitutions today are goalkeeper Spencer Richey, defenders Rafael Czichos, Alonso Aceves and Arnaud Souquet, midfielders Javier Casas Jr., Alex Monis and Brian Gutiérrez and forwards Kei Kamara and Missael Rodríguez.
  • Defenders Jonathan Dean (left upper leg), Carlos Terán (right knee) and Justin Reynolds (left upper leg), midfielders Fabian Herbers (yellow card accumulation), Chris Mueller (hip), Federico Navarro (red card suspension) and Sergio Oregel Jr. (right lower leg) and forward Victor Bezerra (left upper leg) are unavailable for selection tonight.
