Chicago Fire to host New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in Eastern Conference Knockout Round

Red Bulls knockout round wide

With the Chicago Fire's seeding in the Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs now confirmed, the third-place Men In Red will host the New York Red Bulls on Wednesday, Oct. 25 in a nationally-televised contest at Toyota Park (7:30 p.m. CT | FS1, UniMas).

The Fire wrapped up their 2017 regular season campaign in Houston on Sunday night with a 3-0 defeat on the road, but maintained their third-place status in the Eastern Conference after Columbus Crew SC and New York City FC battled to a 2-2 draw, as did Toronto FC and Atlanta United.
Head coach Veljko Paunovic's side finished the regular season with 55 points -- just two shy of second-seeded New York City FC -- having gone 4-2-2 over their final eight matches.
They'll now quickly pivot into a midweek winner-take-all contest with the visiting Red Bulls, against whom they've squared off twice already in 2017. The Fire were bested 2-1 in an early season meeting at Red Bull Arena back on April 29, before splitting the points at home on Sept. 9 in a 1-1 draw.

Should the Fire advance, they'll head to the home-and-away Eastern Conference semifinal series against New York City FC, who earned a first-round bye after finishing in second place in the conference.
