CHICAGO (Sept. 19, 2022) – Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has signed Homegrown midfielder Brian Gutiérrez to a new four-year contract. Gutiérrez is now under contact with the Club through the 2026 season with a Club option for 2027.

“We are excited about the tremendous growth that we’ve seen from Guti in his first three seasons with the first team,” said Chicago Fire FC Sporting Director Georg Heitz. “Guti has become a very important player for the team, and we believe that he has a very bright future ahead as long as he continues to stay focused and work hard. He has fully earned this new contract and we look forward to seeing his continued growth with the Club.”

Gutiérrez, 19, originally became the 16th Homegrown signing in Club history on March 9, 2020. He made his MLS regular season debut on Aug. 20 of that year, appearing as a substitute against the Columbus Crew. Gutiérrez has played in 54 matches (24 starts) for the Fire since making his debut, including a career-high 31 appearances (18 starts) in 2022.

“It has been a dream come true representing my hometown club for the past three years and I’m thrilled for this opportunity to continue playing with the Fire,” said Gutiérrez. “I’m so grateful for all the support and confidence this Club has given me thus far. I am eager to continue to grow and develop here with the ultimate goal of bringing an MLS Cup to my hometown city of Chicago.”

Additionally, Gutiérrez registered his first career goal for the Fire against the San Jose Earthquakes on July 3. The Chicagoland native has also added a career-high five assists in 2022.

Internationally, Gutiérrez has represented the U.S. Men’s Youth National Teams at the U-16 through U-20 levels. Gutiérrez represented the U.S. U-20 MYNT during the Revelations Cup in Celaya, Mexico, in November 2021, and joined the team in March when the squad traveled to Argentina for a training camp. Most recently, Gutiérrez has been called up the U-20 MYNT roster again for the upcoming 2022 Revelations Cup in Mexico City, Mexico.

Following the FIFA window, Gutiérrez and the Fire will return to league play on Saturday, Oct. 1 when the team travels to face FC Cincinnati at 6:30 p.m. at TQL Stadium. The match will be televised live on WGN-TV and CF97 Live, and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM.
