CHICAGO (Sept. 18, 2022) –  Chicago Fire FC II closed out the inaugural 2022 MLS NEXT Pro season with a 1-0 victory over Inter Miami CF II on Sunday afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium. Alex Monis scored early in the match and the defense held on for Mihajlo Mišković’s first clean sheet of the season. The result eliminated Miami from the MLS NEXT Pro playoffs.

Chicago opened the scoring in the 14th minute when Omari Glasgow won the ball in the middle of the field and sent a ball into space behind the Miami backline. The ball was perfectly placed into the path of an onrushing Monis, who collected the ball and took a few touches before placing a shot out of the reach of Miami goalkeeper Andre Zuluaga. Monis’ fifth tally of the season tied him with Glasgow for fourth-most goals for the Fire.

The Fire defense got to work thereafter, allowing only a pair of shots on goal that Mišković took care of. Late in the match, Missael Rodríguez had multiple looks on counters, but could not slip them past Zuluaga. With Miami needing a win to have a shot at the playoffs, the Fire held on to close out the result and thus end the 2022 season on a high note.
