CHICAGO (Feb. 15, 2023) - Chicago Fire FC II today announced that the Club has signed defender Jake Fuderer to an MLS NEXT Pro contract. His contract runs through the 2023 season, with a Club option for 2024. Financial details were not disclosed.
“We’re excited to have a player with Jake’s athleticism, versatility and mentality” said Chicago Fire FC II General Manager Alex Boler. “We couldn’t have asked for a player with a stronger work ethic who embodies the talent and spirit of the city he grew up in and represents. We’re pleased that he has chosen to continue his development at his hometown Club.”
Fuderer, a native of Glenview, Ill., joins the Club after spending the last four years playing at DePaul University. During his time at DePaul, he led the team in points during the 2022 season with nine, and has earned All-BIG EAST honors on three occasions. Additionally, he tallied 13 goals and 41 points in 75 appearances, leading the team in goals in two seasons (2019, 2021).
“Jake is a player who we feel can definitely reach the next step,” said Chicago Fire FC II head coach Ludovic Taillandier. “He plays mainly at left back but can play any number of positions. He puts his head down and works hard, setting a good example on and off the field for the younger players.”
Before joining DePaul, Fuderer played club soccer for FC United under head coach Gonzalo Segares, who was drafted by the Fire in 2005 and made 231 appearances in a Fire uniform between 2005-2009 and 2010-2014.
