WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Chicago Fire fell 4-0 against D.C. United on Sunday in the club’s final road game of the 2015 MLS regular season.
Chicago captain Jeff Larentowicz made his 300th appearance during the match. He is the 30th field player in MLS history to reach that milestone.
D.C. United took the lead in the 39th minute after Chris Pontius capitalized on a Fire misclearance. Pontius stepped onto a loose ball between Chicago defenders and sprinted through the back line before slotting his shot into an empty net.

The hosts struck twice more near the midway point of the second half. The first came on a set piece with Bobby Boswell flicking home a corner kick from Fabian Espindola. Espindola scored a goal of his own four minute later, watching his deflected cross squirt just inside the near post with Fire goalkeeper Jon Busch helpless to deny the wayward pass.
Alvaro Saborio capped the scoring with a tap-in from close range in the 90th minute. The chance came after a shot deflected off of Fire defender Daneil Cyrus and arched into Saborio’s path. The Costa Rican only needed to lift his leg and redirect the ball into the net with Busch off his line.
The Men in Red will close out their 2015 season against the New York Red Bulls on Sunday, Oct. 25 at Toyota Park. Kickoff is 4 p.m. CT on CSN Chicago.
