Chicago Fire Acquire Brazilian U-20 Defender Rodrigo Ramos on Loan

CHICAGO(Feb. 3, 2016) ā€“ The Chicago Fire announced Wednesday that the club has acquired defender Rodrigo Ramos on a one-year loan from Brazilian SĆ©rie A side Coritiba. Ramos will be added to the Fire roster upon receipt of his ITC and P1 Visa.


ā€œRodrigo is a dynamic outside back with lots of range," said Chicago Fire general manager Nelson RodrĆ­guez. "He can cover the flank and gets into the attack consistently well.ā€


A Brazilian youth international, Ramos made two appearances in the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. The SeleĆ§Ć£o U-20ā€™s reached the final where they fell to Fire head coach Veljko Paunovic and Serbia in extra time.


ā€œI saw Rodrigo play during the FIFA U-20 World Cup in New Zealand and he left an impression with me," Paunovic said. "He is a young player with lots of potential and we hope he will seize this opportunity with the Fire."


The 20-year-old made his professional debut with the Coxa Branca on June 28, 2015, tallying the game-winning assist in the match. Ramos made an additional eight appearances for his side to close the season.
