Chicago Fire Academy U-15 Team Advances to 2023 GA Cup Round of 16

CHICAGO (April 4, 2023) - The Chicago Fire Academy U-15 and U-17 teams traveled to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., to participate in the 2023 Generation adidas Cup, with the U-15 squad advancing out of the group stage after going undefeated in Group 7 play. The U-13 and U-14 squads remained at home where they hosted Sockers FC in MLS NEXT play. 

U-13 Academy 

The youngest academy of the four groups opened their weekend taking on Sockers FC at SeatGeek Stadium. The match resulted in a 2-0 loss. With the result, the U-13 Academy now sits in fifth place in the Mid-American division with a record of 8-5-7 and 31 points. 

The U-13s will return to MLS NEXT play as they hit the road to take on Bavarian United SC on Saturday, April 15 at the Ramon Bavaria Soccer Club in Glendale, Wis.. Kickoff is slated for 9 a.m. CT. 

U-14 Academy 

The U-14 Academy began the weekend taking on Sockers FC at SeatGeek Stadium. The match resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Fire with goals from Hugo Berg and Robert Turdean. With the win, the U-14 Academy now sits in second place in the Mid-American division with a record of 2-0-2 and eight points. 

The U-14s return to MLS NEXT Play on the road to take on Bavarian United SC on Saturday, April 15. Kick-off is slated for 11 a.m. CT at the Ramon Bavarian Soccer Club in Glendale, Wis.. 

U-15 Academy 

The U-15 Academy traveled to Bradenton, Fla. to participate in the 2023 Generation adidas Cup. They recorded a 2-1 win in their opening game against Vancouver Whitecaps FC with a goal from Parker Amoo-Mensah and an own goal from Vancouver. In their second matchup against KRC Gent, the Fire drew 1-1 in regulation time with a goal from Aiden Goldberg, assisted by Parker Amoo-Mensah. The result was officially recorded as a tie, despite the Fire losing the penalty shootout, 7-6. In their final group stage match, the Fire would prevail against LA Galaxy, 2-1, with goals from Aaron Ineh, assisted by Andrej Illich, and Emir Herrera.  

The U-15 Academy has advanced to the Round of 16 in the 2023 Generation adidas Cup and will play against C.F. Monterrey on Wednesday, April 5. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. CT at the IMG Academy Field in Bradenton, Fla.. 

U-17 Academy 

The U-17 Academy traveled to Bradenton, Fla. alongside the U-15 team to participate in the 2023 Generation adidas Cup. The U-17s dropped their first game,4-0 to Seattle Sounders FC. Their second game against FC Dallas resulted in a 2-0 loss, and the team closed out the group stage with a 1-0 win against Miami Rush Kendall SC with a goal from Easton Bogard, assisted by Aaron Deppe.  

The U-17 Academy will be back in action in the 2023 Generation adidas cup Showcase where they will take on Club America. Kickoff against Club America is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, April 5. Followed by a game against D.C. United at 4:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, April 6 and Portland Timbers at 4:30 p.m. CT on Friday, April 7 All games will be played at the IMG Academy Field in Bradenton, Fla.
