
Gary Lewis
Technical Director
Gary Lewis was named Technical Director of the Chicago Fire Academy on Jan. 13, 2023, overseeing the technical direction of the five teams within the Academy. He works closely with the first team and Chicago Fire FC II technical staffs to ensure continuity from the Academy to the professional level.
Lewis has served as a youth coach, manager and Academy director in Europe and the United States, and as a coach instructor for the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Over the course of his career, Lewis has coached and mentored players who have gone on to represent their national team, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Curtis Jones (Liverpool – England); Brenden Aaronson, Paxten Aaronson and Mark McKenzie (Philadelphia Union – USA); and Obed Vargas and Reed Baker-Whiting (Seattle Sounders – USA).
Lewis most recently served as New York Red Bulls II head coach after leading the Seattle Sounders Academy from 2020-2022. Originally from Liverpool, England, Lewis began his coaching career as an academy coach for Everton F.C. before becoming Head of Youth Development for Liverpool F.C., a position he held for six years before moving to the United States. Following his tenure with Liverpool, Lewis became Director of Coaching at The Football Club USA, where he oversaw a network of more than 1,000 coaches and players across six states. In 2015, Lewis joined the Philadelphia Union, serving as Philadelphia Union U-17 head coach before crossing the country to join the Sounders as academy director.
Lewis holds a United States Soccer Federation “A” License and Academy Directors License, as well as a UEFA “A” License and an Academy Managers License from The Football Association. He served as U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team assistant coach in 2019 and is currently a U.S. Soccer Coach Educator.

Emil Kjersgaard Hansen
U-18 Head Coach
Hansen joins Chicago from Tromsø IL, where he served as head coach of the U-17 Academy team in 2025, and U-15 Academy head coach from 2023-2025.
Prior to his time at Tromsø IL, Hansen was a coach at Lyngby Boldklub at the U-14, U-15 and U-17 levels. He holds a UEFA “A” Diploma, a UEFA “B” Diploma and a UEFA Elite Youth A Diploma.

Will Thornton
U-18 Assistant Coach
Thornton is in his second full season with the Chicago Fire Academy.
Thornton joined the Chicago Fire from Michigan Wolves, which he joined in 2017 and most recently he held the position of MLS NEXT Technical Director. Thornton holds a USSF National “A” Youth Coaching License. Prior to becoming a coach, Thornton represented the U.S. U-18 Men’s National Team as a player from 1998-1999.

Sammy Castellanos
U-16 Head Coach
Castellanos returns for his third season with the Chicago Fire Academy, having served as Head Coach of Development (U15-19), Head Coach of the U-17 Academy Team and Head Coach of the U-18 Academy team during his first two seasons.
Castellanos was added to the Chicago Fire Academy staff in the Spring of 2023 from the New York Red Bulls system, where he last served as the Director of the Individual Development Program. Prior to this position he worked as a Red Bulls II Assistant Coach (2020-2022) as well as the U19 Head Coach (2018-2020) and on staff for the Red Bulls U-23 side.
Castellanos was an Assistant Coach at North Carolina State University from 2017- 2018 and spent that time as the U12 Head Coach for the North Carolina FC Academy. He also served as Head Coach for the Orlando City SC Academy from (2015-2017) where he coached the U13s, U17s and U19s. In 2011-2013 Castellanos was on staff as an Assistant Coach at the University of South Florida (USF).
In December of 2018 Castellanos obtained his United States Soccer Federation A-Youth License and most recently earned his Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL 4) from Major League Soccer and the French Football Federation (FFF) in August of 2022.
A native of Philadelphia, PA., Castellanos graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology in 2006 from the University of South Florida where he also played and captained the Bulls men’s soccer team.

Troy McKerrell
U-16 Assistant Coach
Troy McKerrell begins his second season in Chicago after serving as head coach of the Academy's U14 side in his first.
McKerrell has more than 10 years of experience in soccer including as head coach, assistant coach, scout and as a professional player.
The Scotland native came to the Fire from the Des Moines Menace (USL League Two), where he led the team to a 9-1-2 season and a first-place finish in the Heartland Division.
McKerrell holds a UEFA “A” License, and United Soccer Coaches Advanced National Diploma and a Master’s of Science in Organizational Development & Psychology.

Mario Bárcena Saez
U-15 Head Coach
Mario Bárcena Saez joined the Chicago Fire Academy as U-15 Head Coach in July of 2025, bringing a wealth of experience from Spain.
Bárcena comes to Chicago from Villarreal CF in Spain, where he coached from 2018 until May 2024 at the U-12, U-14, U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 levels, and was a U-19 assistant coach.
Prior to coaching at Villarreal, Bárcena spent time as a U-15 coach at Real Racing Club. He began his coaching career in 2004 at the youth level at C.D. Arenas de Frajanes in El Astillero, Spain.

David Abidor
U-15 Assistant Coach
Abidor returns as U-15 Assistant Coach for his second season with the Chicago Fire Academy.
Abidor last served as an assistant coach with the Chicago Fire Youth Club. Before his coaching career, the Chicago native played for USL Championship side, FC Tulsa, formerly known as the Tulsa Roughnecks, as well as Chicago House AC.
Abidor also served as an assistant coach of the Boys’ Varsity Soccer Team at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago and as an assistant coach of the Men’s Soccer team at Roosevelt University in Chicago before joining the Chicago Fire Youth Soccer Academy as staff coach and Sparks coordinator in August 2022. Abidor holds a USSF National “B” License.

Francesco Lettieri
U-14 Head Coach
Francesco Lettieri joins the Chicago Fire Academy in 2025 as U-14 Head Coach.
Lettieri joins the Fire from Team Ticino in Lugano, Switzerland, where he served as head coach at the U-16 and U-15 levels, as well as U-16 assistant coach, from July 2016 until summer of 2025.
Prior to working in Lugano, Lettieri was the U-12 head coach of Team Ticino in Chiasso, Switzerland. Lettieri holds a UEFA “A” License.

Brendon Boucaud
U-14 Assistant Coach
Former Trinidad and Tobago youth international Brendon Boucaud joined the Chicago Fire Academy alongside Lettieri as U-14 Assistant Coach.
Boucaud comes to the Fire from Chicago FC United in Glenview, Ill., where he served as head coach of the U-13 and U-14 Boys, as well as assistant coach at the U-15 through U-19 age levels.
As a player, Boucaud represented Trinidad & Tobago at the U-17 and U-20 age levels. He holds a USSF “B” License.

Tanner Chassman
U-13 Head Coach
Veteran youth coach Tanner Chassman joined the Chicago Fire Academy in July in his first year as U-13 Head Coach.
Prior to joining the Chicago Fire, Chassman served as U-15 Head Coach of Charlotte FC Academy.
Chassman also served as Houston Dynamo Academy U-13 Head Coach in the MLS Academy Formation Phase, and as Individual Development Coach in the MLS Academy Formation and Pre-Professional Phase. He holds a USSF “B” License.

Roger Bonilla
U-13 Assistant Coach
Roger Bonilla joins Chicago Fire FC in 2025 as U-13 Assistant Coach after three years at the helm of HTX Soccer’s U15 and U19 teams.
Prior to his stint with the Texas-based ECNL youth club, Bonilla also served as Youth Director of Coaching and first team assistant coach at Laredo Heat of USL League Two. The Texas A&M International graduate has also worked as a strength and conditioning intern for the university’s athletics department, and has worked as an assistant coach at Arizona Christian University.
Bonilla currently holds a USSF “B” License and is currently a candidate for an “A” License.

Selim Talbi
Individual Player Development Coach/Analyst
Selim Talbi returns for his eighth season with the Fire, this time as an Individual Player Development Coach for 2025/26.
A member of the Chicago Fire Academy since 2018, Talbi most recently oversaw the U-16 Chicago Fire Academy, and served as the U-15 Academy Head Coach during the 2023-24 campaign that saw the Fire win the MLS NEXT Cup title.
Talbi also recently was one of 22 Major League Soccer coaches that received their Elite Formation Coaching License (EFCL) in partnership with the French Football Federation (FFF). He holds a USSF “A-Youth” and a UEFA "A" Coaching License.
He is also a Strength and Conditioning Specialist holding his “CSCS” through the NSCA and a European diploma “DUEPP” from the University of Lyon, France. Talbi also received a master's degree in research and training from the French National Institute of Sport (INSEP).

Bruno Cardoso
Goalkeeping Coach
Bruno Cardoso returns for his third season with the Fire as the Academy’s goalkeeping coach.
Cardoso is a former professional goalkeeper from Brazil, playing 18 years for S.E. Palmeiras, one of the biggest and most important clubs in South America. He started at the Palmeiras youth academy when he was 13-years-old playing at all levels. He also represented the U-17 Brazil National Team, and signed his first professional contract at the age of 16.
Throughout his time at Palmeiras, he played in all major South American tournaments, including Copa Libertadores, and was elected the Brazil Cup’s best goalkeeper during the club’s title run in 2012. In 2016, he continued his career by moving to the USA to play for the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, retiring in 2017 after a 17-year career as a professional soccer player. Bruno holds the NSCAA advanced national goalkeeping diploma, US SOCCER B license and UEFA B goalkeeper coach license.
His experience also includes working as goalkeeper coach/assistant coach for Lynn University; Florida National University; Miramar United FC; Sunrise Prime; and Sunrise Sting Soccer Club, where he was also the director of goalkeepers. He also spent 6 months with Inter Miami Academy as intern goalkeeper coach.

Adam Grainger, PhD
Head of Physical Performance & Player Wellness, Academy & Chicago Fire FC II
As an accredited S&C Coach (NSCA CSCS), Sports Scientist (CASES HPSA), and peer reviewed author, Adam Grainger, PhD, arrives at Chicago Fire FC after most recently combining his Lead Academy Athletic Development role at Ulster Rugby with consultancy work at sports technology leader Kitman Labs.
Dr. Grainger (PhD) has extensive applied coaching and research experience in high performance sport, particularly in team sports. He is a Fellow at CASES (The Chartered Associated of Sport and Exercise Sciences), an Adjunct Assistant Professor at University College Dublin and an External Examiner at Leeds Beckett University.
Prior to working in Ulster Rugby, Dr. Grainger also worked in English Premiership Rugby for 12 years (Saracens, London Wasps and Sale Sharks) across a variety of sports science and athletic performance roles. In December 2017, he was appointed Performance Director for Hockey Ireland, leading the women’s team to a World Cup silver medal and a successful Tokyo Olympics cycle. Meanwhile, during his tenure at University College Dublin as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach within their Ad Astra scholarship program, he supported Olympians across many sports and their League of Ireland soccer team.
In October 2016, Dr. Grainger was appointed chair of the CASES’ Sport and Performance Division. He is chair of the CASES Conference Planning Group and Board member and Events Committee Chair for ISESA.

Genesis Dade
Athletic Trainer
Genesis Dade begins her second year as an athletic trainer for the Chicago Fire Academy.
Dade joins Chicago after serving as Athletic Trainer at the LA Galaxy Academy. Dade earned her Bachelor’s in Molecular, Cellular, Integrative Biology from Beloit College in Wisconsin before earning a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from California State University, Long Beach. Aside from athletic training, Dade has also served as an Emergency Department Technician and an Emergency Medical Technician in California.

Jennifer Garcia
Athletic Trainer
Jennifer Garcia enters her first year as an athletic trainer for the Chicago Fire Academy.
The Aurora, Ill. native previously earned athletic training internships with Seattle Sounders FC, Northwestern Medicine and Kaneland Senior High School. She holds a master’s degree in athletic training from North Central College in Naperville, and a bacherlor’s degree in sports and exercise science from Benedictine University in Lisle.

Eldwin Neritani
Athletic Trainer
Eldwin Neritani returns after serving as the U-13/U-14 athletic trainer for the Chicago Fire Academy in 2024.
Neritani joined the Fire from ATI Physical Therapy, where he served as an Athletic Trainer. Before joining ATI, Neritani served as a Student Athletic Trainer for St. Louis University, where he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Athletic Training. He also held Athletic Training internships from the University of Missouri-Columbia and Washington University in St. Louis.

Ruben Cisneros
Performance Coach
Ruben Cisneros has served as a performance coach for the Chicago Fire Academy since 2023.
A native of Sterling, Ill., Cisneros originally joined the Chicago Fire in 2015 as an intern before moving to Mount St. Mary’s University, where he served as a Graduate Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach. Following stints at the Barça Residency Academy USA and Loyola University-Maryland, Cisneros served as Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach at Rutgers University before rejoining the Fire in 2023.

Bristol Countess
Performance Coach
Bristol Countess returns as a performance coach in her third season for the Chicago Fire Academy.
Countess joined the Chicago Fire in 2023 as Academy Performance Coach from the Orlando Pride. In Orlando, Countess started as a Sports Science intern before becoming a Sports Performance Coordinator and, later, Sports Performance Assistant. She also served as trainer at F45 Training, and as a coach at Rush Union Soccer Club.
Prior to earning her Master’s of Science in Performance Enhancement and Injury Prevention/Applied Sports Science, Countess played collegiate soccer at Georgia Gwinnett College, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science.

Adrian Sánchez
Performance Coach
Sánchez returns as a Chicago Fire Academy performance coach alongside Cisneros and Countess.
Sánchez joined the Fire in 2023 after most recently serving as a performance coach for Nashville SC’s first team and Academy teams. Prior to joining Nashville, he was a collegiate performance coach at Northern Illinois University and Purdue University.
A native of Texas, Sánchez was a youth soccer coach with the Houston Dynamo before pursuing a Master’s of Science in Education at Northern Illinois University. He is an EXOS Performance Specialist and a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA.

Felix Yu
Mental Performance Coach
Felix Yu has served as a mental performance coach with the Academy since 2022.
Yu joined the Chicago Fire FC Academy as PASS Coordinator in July 2018 after spending 6 months with the organization as an extern. He completed his Bachelor of Psychological Science degree from the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia.
He then traveled to Chicago to pursue a masters of arts in Counseling: Specializing in Sport and Health Psychology program that he completed at Adler University between 2016 - 2018. As a part of this dual program, he was required to complete an internship and externship, receiving dual training both in a clinical setting and as a mental performance coach.
In addition to developing and delivering PASS content to the Chicago Fire Soccer Academy, he works on enhancing the mental performance of players/groups/teams at all age levels

Craig Chudley
Mental Performance Coach
Craig Chudley kicks off his first season as a mental performance coach with the Academy.
Chudley was named a mental performance coach for the Academy this season after completing a yearlong internship in his field with the Fire. He previously served in similar roles at USL League Two side Salem City FC and Duluth FC.
The U.K. native holds a master’s degree in Applied Sport & Exercise Psychology from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Organizational Leadership from the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, Minn.

Rachael Jankowsky
Head of Player Care & Wellbeing
Rachael Jankowsky has served as the Club’s Head of Player Care & Wellbeing since 2023.
Prior to her promotion to her current role, Jankowsky served as the Fire’s manager of player advisory & support services, as well as senior coordinator of player education & welfare, since 2020. She originally joined the Fire in 2017 as a player support coordinator.
Jankowsky completed her MSW at University of Chicago in 2019 and is a licensed psychotherapist who is focused on helping young footballers navigate their development pathway.
She has previously managed a post-quake housing development in Haiti, started a business in Oman, and assisted in the establishment of a secondary campus for a leading youth soccer academy in Ghana. Jankowsky is currently focused on creating opportunities for players to access mental health and socio-emotional development supports in the world of youth soccer.

Patrick Stanton
Head of Education
Patrick Stanton joined Chicago Fire FC as Head of Education in 2022 after eight years with the Francis W. Parker School of Chicago.
While at Parker, he served as an Academic Advisor, the Head Coach of the Girls Varsity Soccer program, and the Varsity Boys Soccer Assistant Coach.
Patrick’s connection to the Chicago Fire has been sustained for over twenty years as a season ticket holder. He served as the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, and Director of Finance of Section 8 Chicago NFP in 2006, 2014, and 2015 while helping lead the Chicago Fire Independent Supporters’ Association.
As the Fire’s Head of Education, Patrick has developed the Academy Day School Program from the ground up, integrating valuable life skills curriculum as a means of cultivating well-rounded and world-wise student athletes. Additionally, he oversees the continued education of first and second team players seeking to finish high school requirements or participate in university studies. Patrick received his B.A. in Interpersonal Communications from DePaul University and holds a USSF E license in coaching.

Tom Hicks
Head of Academy Programs
Tom Hicks was named the Club’s Head of Academy Programs in 2024, overseeing operations for the Chicago Fire Academy and Discovery Centers.
Hicks originally joined the Fire in 2023 as Manager of Youth Soccer Development, managing operations for the newly launched Fire Discovery Centers, a free talent identification platform for U-10 through U-12 players to be identified and evaluated for future opportunities with the Chicago Fire Academy. He previously served as Director of Operations and Coaching at Liverpool FC International Academy in San Jose, Calif. following stints with the U.S. Soccer Federation and the Premier League in youth development.
A native of the United Kingdom, Hicks holds a bachelor of science degree in Sports Science & Coaching from the University of Worcester, as well as a UEFA B coaching license from European football’s governing body.

Meghan Perrin
Sr. Coordinator, Academy Football Operations
Meghan Perrin joined the Fire in 2023 as Senior Coordinator of Football Operations for the Chicago Fire Academy.
The Southern Maine native previously served as the Soccer Operational Coordinator for Seacoast United Soccer Club and registrar for the men’s Seacoast Phantoms USL 2 team. She coached the U11, U13, and U17 sides for Seacoast United and holds a USSF “D” license. Perrin was also the head girls varsity soccer coach for Bonny Eagle High School in Buxton, ME for two seasons.
Perrin graduated from Springfield College in Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Health Sciences in 2021, where she played for the women’s soccer team.

Elias Rojas
Academy Equipment Manager & Asst. Goalkeeping Coach
Elias Rojas has seen multiple roles for the Club since 2022, now serving as the equipment manager and assistant goalkeeping coach for the Academy in 2025.
Rojas joined the Chicago Fire Academy as a Senior Coordinator, Academy Operations after spending one season as a Brand Ambassador during gamedays with the first team. He completed his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Aurora University with a minor in Spanish, while playing with the institution’s men’s soccer team. He then played with Chicago House AC in the Midwest Premier League as a member of the squad that competed in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
Rojas also holds a “D” Coaching License from the U.S. Soccer Federation and Federación Mexicana de Fútbol; a Level 2 Technical Scouting in Football certification from the Professional Football Scouts Association (PFSA); and a Professional Masters in Goalkeeper Coaching Science (Senior Pro Level) from the International Soccer Science & Performance Federation (ISSPF).

Daniel Cummings
Academy Video Analyst
Daniel Cummings will begin his first full season as Chicago Fire Academy Video Analyst after joining the Club in May 2025.
In his role as Video Analyst, Cummings supports player development and team performance across all levels of the Academy.
Cummings joined the Fire after serving as a performance analyst for the U.S. Soccer Federation’s youth national teams. While completing a bachelor’s degree in business information technology at Virginia Tech, he served as a student manager for the Hokies men’s soccer program for three years. In that span, he spent time as an equipment intern with D.C. United.
The Virginia native holds a Match Analysis Certification from FC Barcelona and an Opposition Scouting License from The Association of Professional Football Analysis.
