Chicago Fire FC II will travel to the Bay State to face New England Revolution II on Sunday, August 31.

The Fire will wrap up a brief East Coast road trip that began with a 1-0 loss to Eastern Conference top seed New York Red Bulls II. Chicago Fire Academy goalkeeper David Molenda made five saves in the effort, while fellow Academy teammate Hugo Berg made his debut in an impressive 90-minute performance at center back. Chicago remains fourth in the Eastern Conference, closing in on a potential playoff berth.

New England followed up Chicago’s 2-0 win over Philadelphia Union II the week prior with a 3-1 win of their own against the same side on the same day. Forward Liam Butts tallied a brace in the closing 10 minutes of the half to power his side to their sixth win in the last nine. As a result, Butts was named MLS NEXT Pro Player of Matchweek 24.

Sunday’s match will conclude the season series between Chicago and New England. The sides first settled for a rain-soaked 2-2 draw on June 9, followed by a 4-3 victory for the Revolution on July 13 at SeatGeek Stadium. That loss was the only one for the Fire in a 15-game stretch that lifted the Fire to fourth in the conference.

Player Spotlight: Hugo Berg

Chicago Fire Academy defender Hugo Berg made his MLS NEXT Pro debut on Sunday night in the most impressive manner: starting against Eastern Conference leaders New York Red Bulls II.

The highly touted defender, who has earned call-ups to the U.S. Youth National Team, played 90 minutes against one of the best attacking teams in the league. Although a challenging endeavor, Berg played well, denying the Red Bulls multiple chances alongside fellow Academy center back Josue Pfrommer.

Berg will likely continue to receive playing time for the remainder of the season with Chicago Fire II, in addition to playing with the Academy in the 2025/26 MLS NEXT season starting in September.
