Chicago set the MLS NEXT Pro record for most goals in two consecutive games with a 6-1 victory over Columbus Crew 2 on Sunday
CHICAGO (August 4, 2025) – Chicago Fire FC II and MLS NEXT Pro today announced that the team has been named MLS NEXT Pro Team of Matchweek 21 following a 6-1 victory over Columbus Crew 2 Sunday afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium.
Midfielder Trip Fleming opened the scoring in only the second minute of play when he connected with winger Claudio Cassano on a powerful header. The Italian winger then followed with his eighth of the season, followed by Fleming’s second early in the second half. Forward Dean Boltz added on shortly thereafter before midfielder Harold Osorio came in as a second-half substitute and registered a brace of his own to close out the scoring for the Fire.
Chicago’s six-goal outburst on Sunday came only one week after the Fire matched the league record for most goals in a single match in a 9-2 victory over New York Red Bulls II on Sunday, July 27. The combined 15 goals scored by Chicago Fire II is the most ever scored by a team in back-to-back games in MLS NEXT Pro history. Additionally, Cassano’s two assists in the match made him only the fifth player in league history to record 10 assists in a single season.
The weekly honor is the fourth of the 2025 MLS NEXT Pro regular season for Chicago Fire II. The team last earned the honor on Matchweek 20 following their 9-2 rout over the Red Bulls. Prior to that, Chicago also earned the honor in Matchweek 16, when the Fire earned a 3-1 road victory over Inter Miami CF II on Wednesday, June 25 and a 1-1 home draw and shootout win against Crown Legacy FC on Monday, June 30, both in the midst of a nine-game unbeaten streak.
Chicago Fire FC II will travel to the Big Apple for an Eastern Conference rematch against NYCFC II on Friday, August 8. Kickoff at Belson Stadium in Queens is set for 6:30 p.m. CT and can be streamed for free on MLSNEXTPro.com.
