MARIETTA, Ga. (Aug. 18, 2026) – Chicago Fire FC II (9-8-6-3, 36 points) fell 2-1 against Atlanta United 2 (11-8-4-0, 37 points) Tuesday morning at the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Training Ground. Chicago remained in playoff position in the Eastern Conference at the end of Matchweek 24.
In a familiar sight, MLS NEXT Pro assist leader Cameron Dunbar set up current Golden Boot leader Arif Kovac for the opening tally following a relentless half hour from Atlanta. Midfielder Enzo Dovlo followed in the 39th minute, sending the hosts into halftime up 2-0.
Chicago pushed back in the second half, holding the bulk of possession while ramping up the pressure on the Atlanta backline. The breakthrough came in stoppage time when midfielder Trip Fleming’s pass found an open Brody Williams, who beat the goalkeeper for his first career goal. The tally came too late as Atlanta held CFII to fewer than two goals in a match for the first time since their last visit to Georgia on June 6.
