CHICAGO (March 14, 2024) - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has signed midfielder Christian Koffi (pronounced: KOE-fee) to an MLS NEXT Pro contract through the 2024 season. Financial details were not disclosed.
“Christian is a very highly regarded and talented player,” said Chicago Fire II General Manager Alex Boler. “He is an explosive, football-oriented winger and we are excited to welcome him to the Club.”
Koffi, 23, joins Chicago Fire FC II from Club de Fútbol Intercity of the Spanish Primera Federación, the third tier of Spanish football. The young Frenchman made eight appearances for Intercity after joining the team in August 2022. Prior to playing in Spain, Koffi plied his trade in Italy, having signed with AC Fiorentina of the Italian Serie A in 2020.
“The international experience that Christian brings will be a great asset as we head into the Club’s third season,” said Chicago Fire II Head Coach Ludovic Taillandier. “We are certain he will have an immediate, positive impact on the team.”
Hailing from the AS Monaco Academy, where he joined the team in 2018, Koffi moved to Italy with Fiorentina where he played in 58 matches and scored eight goals for Fiorentina Primavera. In Italy, Koffi also made 11 appearances for Serie C side Cesena Football Club while on loan in 2020-21. He then joined Como 1907 in the Serie B on loan in 2021, playing in six matches for the club before returning briefly to France in 2021, where he made 18 appearances for FC Sète also while on loan from Fiorentina.
