Chicago Fire FC Designated Player Gastón Giménez Undergoes Successful Hamstring Surgery

CHICAGO (August 24, 2022) – Chicago Fire FC today announced that Designated Player Gastón Giménez has undergone a successful right proximal hamstring endoscopic tendon repair. Giménez will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2022 regular season, with an expected recovery time of four months. 

The surgery was performed by Chicago Fire FC Head Orthopedics Officer Dr. Brian Forsythe M.D. and Dr. Shane Nho M.D. of Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush at the Rush Gold Coast Surgery Center on Michigan Avenue in Chicago.  

Giménez suffered the injury in the 66th minute of the team’s road match against the Philadelphia Union on Saturday, Aug. 13. Since joining the Fire in February 2020, the 31-year-old midfielder has appeared in 65 league matches, including 59 starts. 

The Fire’s next match will take place this Saturday, Aug. 27 against CF Montréal at Soldier Field. Beginning at 7:00 p.m. CT, the match will be broadcast WGN-TV and CF97 Live, and transmitted locally in Spanish on TUDN 1200 AM. Tickets to the match can be purchased here.
