CHICAGO (Jan. 26, 2024) - Chicago Fire FC today announced that the Club has acquired midfielder David Poreba on loan from Polish club Stal Mielic with option for a permanent move.

"We are very excited to welcome David back home to Chicago,” said Chicago Fire FC II General Manager Alex Boler. “David is a player we’ve been targeting all offseason, and we’re excited to continue developing his playmaking ability and build on his early success at the MLS NEXT Pro level.”

Poreba, 21, joins the Club on loan after finishing the 2023 season with Stal Mielic. Prior to his return overseas, Poreba was a member of Crown Legacy FC, the MLS NEXT Pro affiliate of Charlotte FC. Poreba appeared in 29 matches, making 27 starts as the captain of the North Carolina side last season. In his lone season with Crown Legacy FC, the Chicago native recorded six goals and five assists. He led the team with five assists, while his six goals were the third-most for the club in 2023.

“We’re eager to welcome another promising Chicago-born player to our roster,” said Chicago Fire FC II Head Coach Ludovic Taillandier. “His mentality and ability to control the midfield shows his level of confidence and skill. We feel that he can be an important piece to what we are trying to build within our Club.”

Born and raised in Chicago, Poreba returns to the Windy City after beginning his career as a member of the Chicago Fire Academy. After three seasons with the Fire, Poreba became a member of the Chicago FC United Academy. Following his time in the United States, Poreba joined Polish side Stal Mielec as a member of their reserve team. He made two appearances for their first team, before joining Crown Legacy FC in December of 2022.
