CHICAGO (Nov. 3, 2025) – Chicago Fire FC and Federación Mexicana de Fútbol (the Mexican Football Federation) announced that Chicago Fire Academy midfielder Oscar Pineda has been called up to the Mexico U-17 Men’s National Team for the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup, held from Nov. 3–27 in the Aspire Zone complex in Al-Rayyan, Qatar.

The Mexico U-17 MNT will participate in its eighth consecutive U-17 World Cup, having won the tournament in 2005 and 2011. It will open the World Cup with a group stage match against Korea Republic on Tuesday, Nov. 4, followed by matches against Côte d'Ivoire on Friday, Nov. 7 and Switzerland on Monday, Nov. 10.

Pineda, 17, joins Mexico after participating in the Vaclav Jezec Tournament in Czechia from Aug. 30-Sept. 9, where the team faced Slovakia, Turkey and hosts Czechia. He has also participated in a pair of training camps with the same side in June and September of this year, facing Brazil’s U-17 side in the former camp. The Bolingbrook, Ill. native will join Felix Contreras of Real Salt Lake as the only two players from Major League Soccer academies on the roster, composed primarily of Liga MX academy players.

Primarily playing for the Academy U-18 side, Pineda made his professional debut with Chicago Fire II when he came on as a substitute in the 1-0 win against Toronto FC II on Thursday, March 13 at SeatGeek Stadium. He also appeared in another match against Atlanta United 2 on Sept. 28.
