Match Preview
Chicago Fire FC II is back in Bridgeview for a Southeast Division showdown against Carolina Core FC on Sunday, March 22.
The last two MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot winners – first team players Jason Shokalook and David Poreba – returned to CFII with goals against Chattanooga FC in the 2026 home opener at SeatGeek Stadium on March 15. Shokalook opened the scoring in his first appearance of the season with a header off a cross from Homegrown defender Dylan Borso, who then provided his second assist on Poreba's second half game-winner. Fellow first teamers Puso Dithejane and Viktor Radojević made their second team debut in Chicago's first victory of the year.
Carolina Core will return to league play on Sunday following a 2-1 loss against NPSL side Virginia Dream in the Third Round of the 2026 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Thursday, March 19. Tim Zeegers scored his first goal with his new side, before the visiting Dream responded in an upset victory at Truist Point.
Prior to that match, the Core faced Orlando City B in their home opener on March 14. The Foxes took a 2-0 lead with goals by Anthony Sumo Jr. and Ricardo Montenegro. But the visiting Lions roared back with three unanswered goals, highlighted by Caleb Trombino's game-winning goal in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.

Jason Shokalook replicated his 2025 MLS NEXT Pro Golden Boot form with a goal in his first appearance with Chicago Fire II on March 15 against Chattanooga FC (Barbara Calabrese | Chicago Fire FC)
