With 130 career goals across club stints in Slovenia, Austria, and France, Berić has enjoyed a career full of memorable moments in Europe. Now he looks to make his presence felt in Major League Soccer.
As we look ahead to Berić's Soldier Field debut, check out five of the biggest finishes from his career to-date, listed in no particular order below.
Sept. 26, 2016 - Fadeaway finish vs. Lille OSC
In a Ligue 1 match early into AS St. Etienne's 2016/17 campaign, Berić got on the board first against Lille OSC with a demonstration of power and precision inside the 18-yard box. In the 63rd minute of the match, Berić received the ball at the top of the box with his back to goal and a Lille defender draped all over him. With a quick shift of his weight, he managed to turn and whip a shot over the goalkeeper into the upper left corner of the net to give his side a 1-0 lead. St. Etienne were 3-1 winners on the day.
April 4, 2015 - Berić haunts Wolfsberger AC with dribble and chip
While playing for Austrian Bundesliga side SK Rapid Vienna, Berić became a one-man nightmare to Wolfsberger AC over the course of the 2014/15 season. Across four league matches played between the two sides that season, Berić scored seven goals, including a hat trick in their fourth and final meeting of the campaign. Of his seven goals scored, none were more impressive than this dribble and chip in a 4-1 win in April of 2015 (at the 1:08 mark below).
Oct. 6, 2019 - Diving header delivers Le Derby victory
The Derby Rhône-Alpes, otherwise referred to as "Le Derby" in France, has been contested between St. Etienne and Olympique Lyonnais since the early 1950s. St. Etienne owns a narrow all-time head-to-head lead against its Ligue 1 counterparts, with a 44-33-42 record across all competitions, thanks -- in part -- to Robert Berić. In the most recent edition of the rivalry, Berić entered the match in the 80th minute with the sides level at 0-0. With the match still level in the 90th minute, midfielder Ryad Boudebouz saw Berić drifting towards the far post and whipped a ball in his direction. Berić secured the win in iconic fashion, with a diving, headed finish matched only by the celebration that followed.
Aug. 4, 2015 - Berić brilliance bumps Ajax from UEFA Champions League
In the fall of 2015, Berić and Rapid Vienna found themselves drawn against Dutch Eredivisie powerhouse Ajax (then managed by current Atlanta United boss Frank de Boer) in the third round of UEFA Champions League qualifying. Over two legs, Rapid emerged as 5-4 victors on aggregate, with Berić knocking in two goals and adding a pair of assists. The Slovenian forward scored the crucial late equalizer in a 2-2 first leg draw at home (at the 7:45 mark here), and opened scoring at Johan Cruijff Arena with the below goal in a 3-2 Rapid win that saw them advance to the Playoff Round.
May 18, 2019 - Two goals lift St. Etienne to Europa League
As St. Etienne's 2018/19 campaign came to close, they welcomed OGC Nice to Stade Geoffroy-Guichard with an opportunity to lock up a top-four finish in Ligue 1 for just the second time in three decades. A win would secure their place in the standings and vault them into the 2019/20 Europa League. After 26 scoreless minutes, Berić got things started for St. Etienne with an impressive display of body control and composure in firing his side to a 1-0 lead (below). He'd add a second in the 65th minute (watch here) as St. Etienne cruised to a 3-0 win and booked their ticket to Europe.
