Chicago Fire Midfielders Arturo Alvarez and Dax McCarty Receive International Call-Ups

CHICAGO (Oct. 1, 2017) – The Chicago Fire announced Sunday that midfielders Arturo Alvarez (El Salvador) and Dax McCarty (USA) have been called in by their respective national teams.  
Alvarez has been selected by El Salvador Men’s National Team head coach Eduardo Lara for the international friendly against Canada at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas on Oct. 8.
Alvarez will depart for international duty on Oct. 2 and return to Chicago on Oct. 9.
The Houston native represented the United States on various youth levels before making his senior international debut for his parents’ native El Salvador on Sept. 5, 2009. Alvarez has since earned 43 caps, scoring four goals for El Salvador and represented his side in the 2011 and 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cups, the 2014 Copa Centroamericana and FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches.
McCarty has been called in by USMNT head coach Bruce Arena for the final two matches of World Cup Qualifying. The U.S. will host Panama on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. CT at Orlando City Stadium. The U.S. then travels to face Trinidad and Tobago on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. CT at Ato Bolton Stadium in Couva, Trinidad.
McCarty will depart for Orlando on Oct. 1 and return to Chicago on Oct. 11.
With two games remaining, the U.S. currently sits in fourth place with nine points. The top three teams qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, with the fourth-place team advancing to a playoff in November.
McCarty most recently took part in the United States run to the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup championship. The Winter Park, Fla. native earned his first cap on Nov. 14, 2009 in an international friendly with Slovakia and has since made 12 total appearances for the USMNT.
