The Fire pushed their consecutive unbeaten streak in MLS play to eight with a 2-1 road victory in New England on Saturday, a streak that extends to nine in all competitions when factoring their mid-week victory over St. Louis FC in 2017 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup play last Wednesday.

MLS Golden Boot leader Nemanja Nikolic kept up his form on the weekend, bagging his league-leading 13th goal of the season, followed by a finish from the red hotLuis Solignac that ultimately proved to be the game-winner in New England. With the win, the Fire pushed their 2017 point total to 31, good for second place in both the Eastern Conference and the latest MLS Power Rankings behind only Toronto FC.

Here's what the league's editorial staff had to say about the squad following their triumphant weekend:

"It’s happening: The Fire are in the race for the Supporters’ Shield, folks. They’re organized, they’re hard to break down and as long as Nemanja Nikolic can keep scoring, there’s no reason this magical run can’t continue. Bastian Schweinsteiger’s selfless attitude on the field has proven contagious."

The Fire are back in action at home this weekend, welcoming Eastern Conference contender Orlando City SC to Toyota Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 pm CT with coverage on CSN Chicago.
