Chicago Fire midfielder Shaun Maloney featured the full 90 minutes in Scotland’s UEFA Euro Qualifier on Saturday afternoon, helping his side earn a crucial road point in a 1-1 draw against Ireland at Aviva Stadium in Dublin.
The hosts caught a break in the 39th minute when Jonathan Walters evaded an offside call and buried his right-footed shot to break the deadlock.

Scotland would equalize in the 46th minute however, when Maloney played a nifty give-and-go and from the top of the 18 yard box, unleashed a wicked left-footed shot towards goal which deflected off the back of John O’Shea and into the goal to give Scotland a share of the spoils.
Scotland now sits in second place in Group D with 11 points, three points behind group leaders Poland. Germany, who take on Gibraltar on Saturday afternoon, sit in third place with 10 points.
Maloney will re-join the Fire in Chicago in advance of the Men in Red’s Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against USL side Louisville City FC at Toyota Park on Tuesday, June 16 at 7:30 p.m. CT.
