Fire Loan Nery Castillo To Aris F.C.

Nery Castillo joined the Fire in July

The Chicago Fire Soccer Club announced today that Mexican forward Nery Castillo will join Greek club Aris F.C. on a six-month loan from Shakhtar Donetsk, where he is still contracted. The Fire acquired Castillo on loan from the Ukrainian side July 17, 2010 and retain the option to complete a permanent transfer for the Mexican forward following the six-month loan. Per league and club policy the terms of the loan were not disclosed.
“This is a great opportunity for Nery to get consistent playing time on the field and we look forward to monitoring his progress in the coming months,” said Fire Technical Director Frank Klopas.
Castillo appeared in eight games for the Fire, starting six, tallying 487 minutes after joining the club in mid-July.
Castillo began his professional career in 2000 at age 16 with Olympiakos FC. The forward made 105 appearances and scored 30 goals with the Greek side from 2000 to 2007. In 2007, Castillo was sold to Ukrainian side FC Shakhtar Donetsk.
A native from San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Castillo has represented the Mexican men’s National Team 21 times since 2007, scoring a total of six goals.
